Exchange student – incoming
Living in Kortepohja Student Village is easy because water, electricity, district heating and 1GB broadband connection are included in your rent. In addition, it is free to use the laundry rooms, and common sauna turns are available every day. The gym and studying spaces of Rentukka are in free use of tenants of Soihtu. Student-priced lunch is served in the restaurant in the middle of the Student Village. All our services have been listed on our Housing-page.
All of our housing locations are known for their excellent services and communality. The apartments for exchange students are located in the Kortepohja Student Village, the most popular student district in Jyväskylä.
Please read the apartment and applying information below carefully. We have different instructions for applying depending on whether you are an exchange student of University of Jyväskylä or JAMK University of Applied Sciences. More details (photos, etc.) of the apartments can be found at the Furnished apartment for exchange student -section.
Some of Soihtu’s furnished shared apartments and some furnished studios are reserved for the exchange students of JYU during the academic year. If you are an exchange student of the University of Jyväskylä, please do not fill in an apartment application on Soihtu’s website. University of Jyväskylä will deliver the accommodation applications of exchange students of University to Soihtu at once.
Furnished shared apartments for the exchange students of JYU are situated in buildings M, Q, R and S in Kortepohja Student Village. Furnished studios for exchange students of JYU are situated in building E in Kortepohja Student Village.
A JYU exchange student has their own room in a shared apartment or a studio apartment. Every exchange student living in a shared apartment has their own, lockable room and the common spaces are shared with 1-3 roommates. Some exchange students of the University have their own studio (with a private bathroom and kitchenette).
Some of Soihtu’s furnished apartments are reserved for the exchange students of JAMK University of Applied Sciences during the academic year. If you are an exchange student of JAMK University of Applied Sciences and JAMK has instructed you to apply for Soihtu’s furnished rooms, please fill in Soihtu’s apartment application online and follow the instructions that you have received by email.
Furnished shared apartments for the exchange students of JAMK are situated in Kortepohja Student Village, in buildings M, N and Q.
Each exchange student of JAMK has their own, lockable room and the common spaces are shared with 1 or 2 roommates.
1. Apartment offer & advance payment
Soihtu will send the apartment offer via email. Read your apartment offer email carefully. The length of your tenancy agreement can be found from the apartment offer. Accept the offer in our online service (link for the service in the offer).
Please note that accepting the offer in the online service is not enough, but you also have to pay the first month’s rent as an advance payment to confirm the apartment. Instructions for the payment is sent with together with the offer. By paying the first rent, you will confirm your reservation and commit to the tenancy agreement. Notice, that the payment doesn’t arrive to Soihtu immediately – therefore make the payment early in advance.
2. Sign your tenancy agreement
After you have accepted the offer online and paid the 1st month’s rent and the payment has arrived to us, we will send you the tenancy agreement to sign. The email is sent via Visma Sign. Please sign the tenancy agreement within the requested time.
3. Make the arrangements for the arrival
Before your arrival, make a key box request, so you can pick up the keys from a key box, which is available 24/7. Make the key box request latest 3 (three) working days before the wished date via link we have sent you after your tenancy agreement has been signed.
Check also the information of the furnished apartments and what is included in the rent and the furniture fee. Notice, that you need to bring your own bed linen, towels etc.
Get familiar with the General Housing rules of Kortepohja Student Village – to make your stay as cozy as possible.
4. Pick up the key and move in
Notice, that you can get the keys to your apartment the earliest on the first working day of your tenancy agreement. This means, that if your tenancy agreement starts on a weekend or on a holiday, you can get the keys on the next working day. Check the opening hours on our website. Keys can be picked up from the key box (if the request has been made early enough) or from Soihtu Housing service point within opening hours.
5. Fill in an apartment card
When you move in, check the condition of your apartment and fill in the apartment card that is sent to your email address when your tenancy agreement begins. The apartment is sent within few days after the tenancy agreement begins.
If there is something urgent, that needs to be fixed in the apartment, kindly file a maintenance request.
6. Remember to pay your rent
The due date is always the 6th of each month. Every tenant is personally responsible for their rent payments. Within your rent you need to pay a furniture fee monthly. The liability to pay the rent begins on the same day as the term of your tenancy agreement begins according to the agreement – even if you picked up your keys later.
FAQ – Exchange students
If you don’t have Finnish bank credentials, you may run into this kind of problem in our electronic service. You can accept or reject the apartment offer in two ways:
- If you have Finnish bank credentials, you can respond to the offer in the online service by registering with your bank credentials.
- If you do not have Finnish bank credentials, you can confirm the apartment offer by Office identification. To enter the page, kindly select ”Register as a new user?” and then “Office identification”. Kindly contact Soihtu Housing service point, if needed.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the apartments or rooms after the offers to all exchange students have been sent. We have a limited amount of rooms in shared apartments and they are offered according to the lists of students we receive from the educational institutes.
The offers has been sent based on the information we have received from your educational institute. All the quota apartments for the exchange students are always offered for autumn semester (August 1st – December 31st) or spring semester (January 1st – May 31st). The dates can’t be changed.
If you wish to extend your stay until the next semester, you need to contact your educational institute here in Finland and they will then inform Soihtu.
Once we have sent you the offer via email, you need to accept it in our online service and pay the 1st month’s rent as an advance payment. After we have received the payment, we will send you the rent invoice for upcoming months and the tenancy agreement to sign electronically.
When you have paid the 1st rent as an advance payment, we will send you the tenancy agreement to sign. Otherwise we don’t send separate confirmation emails, when rent payments have arrived to us. You can check your payments at your Tenant’s page anytime.
You can reject the offer in the online service (link in the offer).
If you want to reject the offer after you have accepted the offer and paid the first month’s rent, please notice that the rent won’t be returned if there is under one calendar month to the beginning date of your rent agreement. More information about accepting the offer.
If you want to order a package to your apartment before your arrival, make sure the package does not arrive before you are living in the apartment and ready to receive it, because the parcels are always delivered personally. When you order anything to your apartment, always use your apartment address and contact information, so the delivery company can contact you.
