Furnished apartment
A furnished room in a shared apartment is an easy option for an exchange student. This communal housing type is great opportunity for an exchange student who is moving to a new city since it is an easy way to get to know new people. For those who want privacy, we have some studio apartments available (only for the exchange students of University of Jyväskylä).
Living in Kortepohja Student Village is easy because water, electricity, district heating and network connection are always included in the rent. In addition, it is free to use the laundry rooms and common sauna turns are available every day. Rentukka building that is in the middle of the Student Village is praised by our tenants – many people choose our apartment because the gym and studying spaces in Rentukka are in free use of our tenants. The student-priced lunch is served also after lectures so if you aren’t interested in cooking at home, you can stop by Rentukka to eat!
The tenancy agreement is made for whole months, so the agreement begins on the first day of a month and ends on the last day of a month. The tenancy agreement can be valid for a fixed term (academic year or semester) in a furnished room / studio.
Some Soihtu’s furnished shared apartments are reserved for the exchange students of JYU during the academic year. Starting from August 2022 we have also studio apartments for exchange students of the University. If you are an exchange student of the University of Jyväskylä, usually you don’t need to fill in an apartment application on Soihtu’s website. University of Jyväskylä will deliver the accommodation applications of exchange students of University to Soihtu at once.
Furnished shared apartments for the exchange students of JYU are situated in Kortepohja Student Village, in buildings M, Q, R and S. Furnished studios for exchange students of JYU are situated in building E in Kortepohja Student Village .
Each JYU exchange student that receives an offer from us, has an own room in a shared apartment or a studio apartment. An exchange student living in a shared apartment has their own, lockable room and the common spaces are shared with 1-3 roommates. Some exchange students of the University have their own studio (with a private bathroom and kitchenette).
Some Soihtu’s furnished apartments are reserved for the exchange students of JAMK University of Applied Sciences during the academic year. If you are an exchange student of JAMK University of Applied Sciences and JAMK has informed you to apply Soihtu’s furnished rooms, please fill in Soihtu’s apartment application online (and follow the instructions that you have received by email).
Furnished shared apartments for the exchange students of JAMK are situated in the Kortepohja Student Village, in buildings M, N, R, S and Q.
Each exchange student of JAMK that receives an offer from us will have their own, lockable room and the common spaces are shared with 1 or 2 roommates.
Furnished rooms in buildings M and N in the Student Village
We have the furnished shared apartments for two people in buildings M and N in the Student Village. Own, lockable bedroom and shared kitchenette and bathroom will be in your use as a tenant of buildings M and N.
Room size is about 12 square meters in the apartments in buildings M and N.
There is a shared kitchenette and bathroom in the apartments in buildings M and N.
Furnished rooms in buildings Q, R and S in the Student Village
We have the furnished shared apartments for 3 or 4 people in buildings Q, R and S in the Student Village. Own, lockable bedroom and shared kitchen and bathroom will be in your use as a tenant of buildings Q, R and S.
Rooms are different sizes in the buildings R and S. Room size is about 14 square meters in the apartments in building Q.
There is enough space for cooking with your flatmates in the apartments in buildings Q, R and S. There is also a balcony in every apartment of buildings R and S.
Furnished studios in building E in the Student Village
Some studio apartments are available for the exchange students of the University of Jyväskylä. During summer months these apartments are available for short time rent.
In studio apartment you will have the whole apartment for yourself with a private bathroom and a kitchenette.
Apartment size is 20 square meters in the furnished studio apartments in building E.

Equipment of furnished room/studio
You will have basic furniture in your room (bed, foam mattress, pillow, duvet blanket, rug, table, chair and armchair). No towel or bed linen set are included in the apartment, so you need bring your own.
You can use basic housewares in the kitchen/kitchenette of your apartment.
Network Connections in Furnished Apartments of Soihtu
A furnished rental apartment from Soihtu always includes a wireless internet connection.
Buildings R and S: All apartments’ internet connections are provided by Lounea. In furnished apartments, a wireless internet connection is available alongside a 3 Gbps fixed network connection.
Buildings M and N: The apartment offers a 1 Gbps fixed network connection from Lounea. Alongside this, Soihtu’s wireless tenant network is available.
Building E: Furnished rental apartments have access to Soihtu’s wireless tenant network.
Building Q: The entire building has access to Soihtu’s wireless tenant network.
By using the network, you accept the terms.
- Usage Rights: Only tenants and their temporary guests have the right to use the network.
- Security: Users must ensure their devices are secure and that they do not share the network password with outsiders.
- Illegal Activity: The network must not be used for illegal activities, such as copyright infringement or spreading malware.
- Bandwidth: Network usage may be restricted if an individual user consumes an unreasonable amount of bandwidth.

Office of Soihtu Moves to Ilokivi Student Union Building
The Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY) wants to centralize its operations at Ilokivi.
