More than 400 new students moving into Soihtu apartments in August

More than 400 students starting their studies in Jyväskylä will move into Soihtu apartments in August. Soihtu has three housing locations in Jyväskylä: Kortepohja Student Village, Soihtu Korttelikylä and Soihtu Vehkakuja.

All apartments becoming available in August have now been offered to applicants, and tenancy agreements have already been signed for most of them. A small number of apartments or shared-apartment rooms may still become available before the beginning of August if some applicants decide not to accept the housing offer they have received.

“We have prioritised offering apartments becoming available in August to applicants who are starting their studies at the University of Jyväskylä,” says Anna-Leena Kauppila, Service Advisor at Soihtu.

More apartments will become available during the autumn

Apartments and shared-apartment rooms becoming available by the beginning of September will be offered to applicants who have submitted a housing application as vacancies arise. Soihtu apartments are primarily rented to students, with priority given to members of the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY). Resident selection is based on housing need, and housing offers are made on the basis of submitted applications.

Securing accommodation before starting studies is understandably very important, which is why many students’ family members also become involved in the housing search. However, Kauppila reminds applicants and their families that Soihtu cannot discuss the details of an adult applicant’s application with anyone else – including parents – without written authorization.

“If an applicant wants to check whether there are any missing details in their application, for example, they must contact Soihtu themselves,” Kauppila explains.

Our customer service team can be reached conveniently by email, WhatsApp or phone.

For those still working on their housing application, Katri Pennanen, Housing Services Manager at Soihtu, has one piece of advice:

“It is worth keeping an open mind regarding both the apartment type and the housing location. The more options included in the application, the better the chances of finding a home in Jyväskylä. We hope to see you in Jyväskylä this autumn!”
