Rentukka Gym
The Rentukka gym is a free, low-threshold facility for independent training available to all Soihtu residents. You can access the gym with your own key, and you can conveniently change into your workout clothes at home or in the locker rooms of the sauna facilities on the 9th floor of Building A. The gym is located on the 2nd floor of the Rentukka building and can be accessed either through the exterior door next to Lillukka or from Building A (residents only).
The Rentukka gym includes, among others, the following equipment:
- Treadmill
- Cross trainer
- Exercise bikes
- Rowing machine
- Ab bench, back extension bench, back/chest machine, leg extension machine, leg curl machine, leg press
- Low pulley, high pulley, cable crossover
- Bench press, squat rack, Scott bench, adjustable incline bench, dumbbells and weight plates
- Barbell landmine attachment with handles for T-bar rows
- Pull-up bar
- Dip station & dip belt
- Recovery/stretching area with exercise mats, foam rollers, step platform, etc.
The Rentukka gym does not have its own locker rooms. It is recommended to arrive already dressed for your workout or be prepared to change in the locker rooms of the washing facilities on the 9th floor of Building A. The gym has toilet facilities and one shower, with additional showers available on the 9th floor of Building A.
In the gym’s storage area, there is a shoe rack for outdoor shoes and coat racks for outerwear. Small lockable lockers are available for personal belongings during your workout. You may use your own padlock, but please do not leave your belongings stored at the gym.
Lockers are intended for use only during workouts. Lockers left locked for extended periods will be emptied regularly during cleaning.
Deadlift room
In connection with the Rentukka gym, there is also a separate space for deadlifting and weightlifting. The area includes barbells and weights for deadlifts, as well as a squat rack. Please note that deadlifting is not permitted in the main gym due to structural reasons.
The separate deadlifting area is located in the basement of Building A, and access is most easily gained through the gym using your key card. The space is available daily from 9:00 to 21:00 for all Soihtu residents and uMove members.

Who can use the gym?
Gym use is included in the rent for apartments in Soihtu housing. You can access the gym with your apartment key or a separate “Village key” received upon moving in. The key is personal and must not be given to others.
uMove members can also gain access to the Rentukka gym. Pay the semester fee and collect a key card from the Ilokivi service point. The key card is personal and must not be shared.
Please note that access rights for uMove members differ from residents: entry is only possible through the exterior door next to Lillukka, and access to washing facilities is only through the gym (no access via the restaurant-side door or Building A main entrances).
Problems with equipment?
Submit a maintenance request here.
Equipment is serviced regularly, and new equipment is acquired approximately once a year as needed. Suggestions for new equipment and supplies can be sent by email to kuntosali@rentukka.fi.
Random checks
To ensure fair and appropriate use, staff occasionally conduct spot checks of gym users’ access rights.
uMove members can verify their access with a receipt displayed on their phone and an ID. Soihtu residents can verify access with an ID and their apartment number.
Access to the gym
The main entrance to the gym is located at street level on the northern end of the Rentukka building. Show your Village key or university sports gym card to the reader next to the door and enter once it opens. Take the stairs to the 2nd floor to reach the gym.
Village residents can also access the gym through the indoor corridor of Building A — simply follow the signs inside the building.
Accessible entry to the gym and washing facilities
Accessible entry to the gym is possible via the elevator located in the Rentukka lobby during the restaurant’s opening hours. The washing facilities can be accessed step-free from outside: pass underneath the Rentukka building to the main entrance of Building A and take the elevator to the 9th floor.
Access to washing facilities
After your workout, you can wash up in the sauna facilities on the 9th floor of Building A. Access to these facilities is from the 2nd floor of the Rentukka building (follow the signs). You will need your Village key or uMove key card.
