Broadband connection

Your rent includes the Soihtu’s broadband connection (1 Gbit/s) that offers a fast connection the Internet and all services included in the University’s network.

Are you using the net on one computer using a direct a cable?

Or do you need the network for several computers and want a wireless LAN?

You can connect to Soihtu’s broadband via Kortex network, a built-in residential cabled data network. When you sign the tenancy agreement, you accept the terms of use for the Kortex network. Because Soihtu’s broadband connection is administered by the University of Jyväskylä, a registration is required when connecting a new device for the first time. Each tenant can register one device to the network. The device can be for example a laptop, desktop or a router. When using the network, you need your own network cable of the standard RJ-45 CAT 6 (compatible with Gigabit speed). If you want a wireless connection in your use, or several devices, you can connect a router to the wall socket in your apartment.

Please consider that the staff of Soihtu Housing or Soihtu Facility Services aren’t able to answer questions regarding using the network. Contact Soihtu’s broadband connection support for help in issues regarding the broadband connection.
