Happy news for the Kortepohja district: Subway signs a lease in the new U-building of Soihtu

Soihtu has signed a lease with Subcom Oy on the retail space located on the ground floor of the U-building, which is currently under construction. Subcom is Finland’s largest Subway franchise company. A Subway restaurant will opened by Subcom in the U-building when the new building is completed in spring 2025.

“Subway is an excellent fit for the Student Village. The restaurant is set to open in a prime location right in the heart of the revitalized Kortepohja, right next to the brand-new grocery store Sale. The new location is a good example of Soihtu’s active urban developments, where services in residential areas are developed in addition to residential sites. Signing the lease in the early stages of construction made it possible to take Subway’s concept into account in the design and construction of the space,” says Kimmo Moilanen, Real Estate Director at Soihtu.

“The new restaurant will have over 20 seats for dining customers, and the takeaway option. The restaurant will employ approximately 10 people. In addition to the good location of the new restaurant, Kortepohja’s strength lies in the large number of students living in the area, who hopefully will also be employed in the restaurant. Subway is a significant employer of young people and part-time employer of students,” says Taina Heikkinen, Regional Manager at Subcom Oy.

The U-building is an A-energy class hybrid project combining housing and business premises in the Kortepohja Student Village. The project will offer apartments of different sizes for students and student families. The new development will bring commercial services catering to the entire Kortepohja community to the revitalized main street of Kortepohja.
