August apartments offered

In August, more than 400 students beginning their studies in Jyväskylä will move into Soihtu’s apartments. Soihtu has three housing locations in Jyväskylä: the Kortepohja Student Village, Soihtu Korttelikylä and Soihtu Vehkakuja.

All apartments available at the beginning of August have now been offered, and most have already had tenancy agreements signed. Individual apartments or shared rooms may still become available at the beginning of August if someone declines their apartment offer.

“We always reserve apartments and rooms available from the beginning of August for new students starting their studies in Jyväskylä. This way, Soihtu can offer affordable accommodation to as many students moving to the city as possible at the start of their studies,” says Soihtu’s Housing Coordinator Anni Pajari.

Apartments and shared rooms becoming available at the beginning of September will be offered to those who have submitted an apartment application as soon as they become available. Apartments are primarily rented to students, with members of the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY) being given first consideration. The selection of residents is based on need.

“In summer, our customer service understandably receives numerous inquiries related to apartment applications. Many applicants are surprised to learn that there is no separate housing queue; instead, apartments are offered based on need,” Pajari explains. “We can check if the application is in order and provide general information about the housing situation, but unfortunately, we cannot comment on when an applicant might receive an offer.”
