Instructions for organizing an Event or Occasion in Soihtu’s Venues
On this page, we have gathered guidelines on what to consider when organizing activities in Soihtu’s event venues to ensure your occasion or celebration runs smoothly.
Before the Event
- Make sure you have access to a suitable venue. Explore our spaces and make a reservation!
- If you are organizing a public event, ensure you have submitted all required notifications to authorities and obtained the necessary permits.

If needed, provide them with arrival instructions (the link on this page will take them to the correct section).
- Arrange catering. You can prepare everything yourself, pick up snacks and food from a store, or use any catering service you prefer. For Soihtu’s venues, flexible catering is available for example through Semma’s Event Services (opens in a new window), myynti@semma.fi.

Arriving at Soihtu’s Event Venues
The Student Union Building Ilokivi and the new student building Opinkivi are located on the Seminaarinmäki campus in Jyväskylä.
Street address: Keskussairaalantie 2, 40600 Jyväskylä.
Bus lines:
The Yliopisto 1 and Yliopisto 2 bus stops are located on Keskussairaalantie, in the immediate vicinity of the Ilokivi student building and the Opinkivi sauna.
The Pitkäkatu 1 and Pitkäkatu 2 bus stops are located on Voionmaankatu, at the corner of the Seminaarinmäki campus area, a few minutes’ walk from Ilokivi. Note: The shortest walking route from the Pitkäkatu stops goes through the Seminaarinmäki park area and the protected university campus area. The entire route is lit. Part of the path is an unpaved gravel road, and there are elevation changes along the way.
The Lounaispuisto 1 and Lounaispuisto 2 bus stops are located on Vapaudenkatu, a few minutes’ walk from Ilokivi. Note: The shortest walking route from Lounaispuisto leads through the wooded area of Seminaarinmäki and includes steep elevation changes.
Parking:
There is plenty of bicycle parking near the surrounding buildings and the Student Union Building.
Cars may be parked on weekdays between 16:00 and 00:00 and on weekends without a separate permit in the customer parking areas of the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY) or Soihtu.
Entrance:
The entrance to Ilokivi Venue is from the lower courtyard of the Student Union Building, under the “Ravintola” sign. In the evenings, the Venue logo is projected above the entrance.
The entrance to the Opinkivi sauna is located between the Ilokivi student building and the new Opinkivi student building. When standing at Ilokivi Venue facing the entrance, turn right. A large sign guides you to the sauna door.
Entering the building:
You can enter with the door code sent to you with your booking confirmation. The code reader is next to the entrance door. Pressing the # key after the numeric code opens the door.
Lillukka, the Bertta meeting room, and the Bastu sauna are located in the Kortepohja Student Village, connected to the Rentukka community building. Street address: Taitoniekantie 9, 40740 Jyväskylä.
Bus lines:
The Tietoniekantie 1 and Tietoniekantie 2 bus stops are located on Laajavuorentie, within visible distance of the student village and a short walking distance from the Rentukka community building. The Taitoniekantie bus stop is also a short walk from Rentukka Square.
Parking: There is ample bicycle parking next to Rentukka. Visitor parking for cars is available at the former Kortepohja shopping centre’s parking area, accessible via Tilustie. Please follow the traffic signs in the area. A map of the area is available in Soihtu’s image bank (opens in a new tab).
Entrance:
For Lillukka, the entrance is through the passageway located below the Rentukka gym, next to the parcel locker. This entrance is not accessible.
For the Bastu sauna and the Bertta meeting room, use the main entrance of building Taitoniekantie 9B. Open the door with the access code you received; the code reader is on a post to the right of the door. Bastu and Bertta are located on the 9th floor. Follow the signs and use the elevator.
Entering the building: You can enter using the door code sent with your booking confirmation. The code reader is located next to the entrance door. Press the # key after entering the numeric code to unlock the door.
During the Event
- Sort waste appropriately.
- Calling security: If needed, you can request a security guard through the property maintenance on-call number.
- If needed, contact the maintenance company: Maintenance for Soihtu’s event venues is provided by Soihtu Facility Maintenance.
After the Event
- Take care of cleaning the premises and removing waste according to the instructions you have received.
- Pack all your belongings. Remember to check the refrigerator and the sauna benches before you leave.
- Turn off the lights and lock the doors when you exit the venue for the last time.
- Give us feedback so we can continue improving our services.
Cleaning Instructions for Ilokivi Venue
- Restore all furniture to its original arrangement.
- Take all waste from the hall and restrooms to the waste collection point.
- Leave biowaste neatly in the kitchen area.
- If you do not wish to take bottles or cans with you, do not take them to the waste collection point. Leave them indoors in waste bags instead.
- Dispose of mixed waste in the mixed waste container.
- Clean away any extra debris and spills.
- All cleaning must be fully completed, and all personal belongings removed before the end of your rental period.
1. Surface Cleaning
- Wipe tables, chairs and surfaces with a damp microfiber cloth.
2. Dry Mopping the Floors
- Use a dry mop to remove dust and loose debris from the floor.
3. Wet Wiping the Floors
- Clean the floors with a slightly damp floor cloth to remove stains and dirt.
- Moisten the floor cloths with water.
- Wipe any visible stains.
- If necessary, spray the stain with an all‑purpose cleaner (KW‑green).
- Finish by wiping the area again with a floor cloth.
- Dispose of mixed waste in the mixed waste container.
- Clean away any extra debris and spills.
- You do not need to mop the restroom floors.
- Wash all dishes you have used in the dishwasher.
- The dishwasher instructions can be found in the venue’s kitchen.
- Let the dishwasher program run until it is finished.
- Once the program has ended, the reserver must empty the dishwasher and return the dishes to their proper places.
