The U-building brings homes and services to the Student Village

A new apartment building is currently under construction along Kartanonkuja, in the heart of the Student Village, for students and student families. Once completed, the U-building will serve not only its new tenants but the entire Kortepohja area, as Keskimaa’s Sale and Kortepohja’s first Subway restaurant will be located on the ground floor.
According to Eetu Jänis, the project manager at the construction company Soimu, the project has been especially worthwhile for the builders, as hybrid buildings like the U-building are not the most common construction projects.
The builders must take into account the construction site’s surroundings, the users of the spaces, and the tenants, so that everyday life can continue as normally as possible despite the worksite. Right next to the U-building construction site is the Q-building, where the Kortesuo kindergarten operates.
“During the foundation phase of the construction, we ensured that no noise-causing work was done during the children’s nap time,” Jänis explains.
The construction site has naturally required understanding from the tenants of the surrounding Student Village, especially regarding the noise from the piling phase and changing routes. However, the wait will be rewarded in a few months when new services are available right in the middle of the Student Village.
