Opinkivi Sauna meeting room got a facelift during the summer

Located next door to the Student Union Building Ilokivi and familiar to many students, The meeting room of the Opinkivi sauna, received a facelift during the summer.

The parquet of the Opinkivi sauna meeting room was replaced with grey vinyl plank during a renovation that took a few weeks. Due to the renovation, the Opinkivi sauna and meeting room were out of use while the works were underway. The floor renovation was initiated by the Council of Representatives of the Student Union JYY.

In Opinkivi, sauna-goers often also book the outdoor jacuzzi located on the terrace, so there may be a lot of movement between the steam facilities and the outdoor terrace during the evening.

“Vinyl plank is a relatively easy to care for and durable material. It is well suited for Opinkivi’s premises, where the floor of the meeting room must sustain wear and tear and some moisture carried by bathers without turning slippery,” says Property Manager Markku Kilpi.

During the renovation, the wall between the meeting room and the kitchen was removed. The change increases the feeling of space on the meeting room side. What is more, the participants arranging catering for events organised by subject associations, for example, will be better able to participate in the common activities when the kitchen connects to the living area without a partition. For the autumn, the traditional tableware in the Opinkivi meeting room will be complemented with new drinking glasses and larger coffee mugs.

First comments are positive

The renovation of the Opinkivi sauna was completed during the summer and the first sauna-goers have already had the opportunity to test the new floor. The feedback has been very positive. “The floor feels safer and the space more spacious. This was a really great improvement,” commented one user.

There is still plenty of room for the Opinkivi sauna for the autumn. An overview of the Opinkivi sauna and a link to the booking calendar can be found on the sauna website. Opinkivi Sauna, owned by JYY and operated by Soihtu, is suitable for a wide range of events, for a maximum of 40 to 50 people. The Opinkivi sauna can be booked by anyone, but the members of the Student Union JYY can book it for a lower price.
